This package works well in combination with our 2 week CA39 Rum, Rumba & Revolution tour, or it can be booked as a separate package. |
| Days 1-4: | Arrive at your hotel in Varadero, and get acquainted with the hotel and its facilities.
Go for a swim in the warm turquoise waters of the Caribbean, before contemplating the optional activities that are available to you. From fishing trips to a visit to the Dolphinarium to see the show or have a swim with them. All these options can be booked and paid for locally, at your hotel. |

| Insurance: | Travel insurance is compulsory for all tours. All clients MUST be insured to cover personal accident, medical expenses, cancellation, curtailment and repatriation. It is also very important that your insurance policy is relevant to the Kumuka style of travel. Kumuka offers a specially negotiated insurance policy specifically tailored to adventure travel. As well as providing substantial cover for medical emergency, cancellation and curtailment, personal luggage, money and valuables and legal expenses, this insurance will also provide cover for the adventure activities you may choose to undertake whilst on tour. Please call us on the Kumuka freephone number 0800 068 8855 (UK only), or on 1300 667 277 in Australia, for further information |
| Passport: | Your passport is a valuable document and you should exercise extreme care in keeping it safe. We recommend that when possible you keep your passport in a deposit box at your hotel, or kept on you, preferably in a money belt that is worn under your clothing. It must be valid for at least six months after the end of your tour and it must have at least one blank page for each visa required. We advise that you take copies of relevant pages in your passport and any visas that you may purchase in case of loss or damage. Alternatively, you can scan copies of these pages and email them to yourself. |
| Visa requirements: | If applicable, it is important that you obtain the appropriate visas before you embark on your Cuba trip. Please consult your Travel Agent or relevant embassy for all details. EACH CLIENT IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING ALL NECESSARY VISAS BEFORE JOINING A TOUR. Kumuka does not accept responsibility for changes in regulations or requirements for visas. |
| Medical Information & Vaccinations: | Recommended inoculations: Yellow fever, Hepatitis A, Diphtheria, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Polio. We also recommend a dental check-up prior to traveling and that you know your blood group in case of emergency. Please consult your local doctor or clinic before traveling.
Medical Supplies: We advise that all passengers bring along their own personal first aid kit with the following recommended items: Band Aids/Bandages, Laxatives, Upset stomach remedy, Anti-diarrhoea remedy, Panadol/Aspirin, Rehydration remedy, Antiseptic cream/powder, Sterile dressing, Any relevant course of medication such as contraceptive pills. A complete Travelers Medical Pack can be purchased for approximately US$25 at most Vaccination Centres, Chemists and outdoor travel shops. |
| Money: | DO NOT TAKE $US dollars. Cuba and the USA have had a very unstable relationship. It is for this reason, that the US dollars is no longer welcome in Cuba, and this has been obvious by the exorbitant commissions and fees charged when tourists try to change their USD into the convertible peso. It is therefore advisable that you carry Euro, Pound Sterling or Canadian dollars before you travel to Cuba. You will be able to change these currencies into the local currency in Havana.
Cash: The best way to travel Cuba is to have your money available in cash. The US dollar is no longer accepted in Cuba, please DO NOT bring US dollars. We advise taking your cash in Euro, Pound Sterling or Canadian. You will be able to change these currencies into the local currency in Havana.
ATM’s: ATM’s in Cuba are very unreliable and are best avoided.
Credit Cards: Credit cards can be used in certain areas but should not be relied upon. Please check with you bank before considering using your credit card as a means of funding your holiday in Cuba, as your card may not be accepted. Credit cards issued by American Banks will NOT be accepted.
Traveller’s cheques: Changing traveller’s cheques can pose problems. You will need to keep a purchase receipt if you chose to bring these. Please note that the commission on changing traveller’s cheques can be quite high, and places to have them cashed are also limited. AMEX traveller’s cheques will not be accepted at all.
Airport Tax: On departure you will have to pay an airport tax of 25 CUC (19 euros or 14 GBP) |
| Food and Drink: | Whilst in Cuba you will find that official restaurants are state owned and the variety is by no means varied or plentiful. You might find that, locating a good restaurant could be quite an adventure in itself. This is why, on this Cuba tour, we provide lunches and dinners where we believe you would have difficulties in finding them. Daily breakfasts will be provided at all our hotels. The official national drink is a Daiquiri, but Mojitos are drunk more widely. Mojitos are a cocktail made from mint leaves, brown sugar, rum, limejuice and soda. You will find that mobile mojito stalls open at 10 am to serve a queue of people who have lined up since 9:30 am |
| Local Customs: | Please use your discretion and be sensitive to cultural differences in the countries that you visit, in particular when visiting religious buildings and when taking photographs. |
| Pre and Post Tour Accommodation: | If you wish to spend a few additional days in your starting or finishing city, then we can arrange accommodation for you. All our accommodation is carefully chosen, conveniently located, clean and comfortable. (All rates per person per night and subject to availability). |
| Tipping: | For better or for worse, tipping is an accepted part of everyday life and although it is always at your discretion, you will be expected to tip to reward service.
As a general guideline, in Cuba it is customary to tip 10% at restaurants and bars, up to 5 euro (3.70GBP) to guides, and to leave approximately 2-euro (1.50 GBP) tip for the chambermaid and bellboy. We suggest clients budget for between 25-30 euros (20-25GBP) per day for personal expenses, souvenirs, evenings out, alcoholic drinks etc. There will be some days when you spend nothing at all and others when you exceed your budget. |
| Staying in Touch: | Whilst on tour you will probably want to stay in touch with family and friends. There are several ways of doing this:

Email – Internet Cafes are very cheap and popular, and you are sure to come across several during your tour. If you haven’t done so already, set up a free Google Mail, Hotmail, or Yahoo email account which you can then access from any computer. Internet Cafes will charge a nominal fee for using their computers.
